Located in Monaco Ville near to the Oceanographic
Museum, the Monaco St Nicholas Cathedral was built
in 1875 on the site of a medieval church.
The Cathedral contains the tombs of the Monaco royal family, including Princess Grace and Prince Rainier.
The architectural style is similar to that of the Oceanographic Museum which is 200 metres down the road.
Special services are held for Sainte Devote*, the patron saint of Monaco, on the 27th of January and the Prince's Day National Holiday on the 19th of November, as well as other religious festival days.
Admission to the cathedral is normally free.
Concerts are held throughout the year.
*A bone of Sainte Devote is preserved in a nearby church, the Chapelle de Nôtre Dame de la Miséricorde.
